Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. We come out, look at the actual work, and give you a written, itemized estimate at no cost and with no obligation. Seeing the site in person is the only way to quote masonry and construction work honestly, so we do not price it over the phone.
What should I ask any contractor before hiring them in Northern New York?
Ask three things. First, for proof of insurance you can verify. Second, for a written, itemized estimate rather than one lump-sum number. Third, for recent local jobs you can go look at. Any contractor worth hiring will answer all three without hesitation, and Cornerstone is happy to.
How do Jefferson County winters affect brick, block, and mortar?
Water gets into small cracks and joints, freezes, expands, and pries the wall apart a little more each year. That is what causes spalling brick, crumbling mortar, and leaning chimneys. The fix is to repair failing joints, keep water moving away from the wall, and use mortar and materials rated for our freeze-thaw cycle.
My chimney looks worn near the top. Do I need a full rebuild?
Not always. If only the crown and the top few courses of brick are damaged, a partial rebuild and a new crown usually solves it. A full rebuild is needed when the mortar has failed deep into the stack or the chimney is leaning. We will tell you which one you actually have, and why, before you spend a dollar.
How long does a deck, patio, or masonry project take?
Most residential decks, patios, and walkways run a few days to a couple of weeks depending on size, access, and weather. Chimney and structural repairs vary more. We give you a realistic timeline with the estimate and tell you up front if weather or material lead times could move it.
Do you handle both small repairs and full projects?
Yes. We take on everything from a section of failing mortar or a few rotted deck boards to a full re-roof, a rebuilt porch, or a stone veneer facade. If it is residential construction or masonry in the Watertown area, it is worth a call.
